Linganore Winery
We really enjoyed their wide selection of wines: dry wines for Chloe, and sweet wines for Marie and me. They usually have food trucks here, and there is also brewery on the premises that has snacks.

Black Ankle Vineyards
This winery has beautiful scenery with rolling hills and a windy backroad to get to it. The tasting rooms feel like you are in a Hobbits’ home: full of stone and wooden structures, fireplaces, and a garden roof.

Deep Creek Lake
Every year in the summer, our family has gone to Deep Creek Lake, MD for a long weekend of family bonding time. There are a lot of things to do in this lake area to keep you busy while you are here. In the wintertime, you can enjoy Wisp Ski Resort.

St. Michaels
St. Michael's is the oldest town in Talbot County, dating back to the mid-1600s. It is known as the "town that fooled the British." As one of my favorite small towns, it has a lot to offer in a day or weekend trip.

Oxford
The first Waterfowl Festival was in 1971, as a celebration of Eastern Shore heritage and to share its culture with visitors. Currently the festival has 6 locations in Easton, MD, each to celebrate wild birds (waterfowl) and the hunting sport it creates. The festival is at the start of goose hunting season each year (early-mid November).

Chincoteague Island
We didn't get to explore much on Chincoteague Island since we arrived late. However, we did see a beautiful sunset at Tom's Cove on Assateague Beach.

Chestertown
This charming town on the water in Kent County was founded in 1706 and is home to the beautiful Washington College. The town had a lot to offer us on a Saturday, including the Farmers Market, many shops, places to eat, and The Cat Colloquium.

Cambridge
Any time of year, you can take a beautiful and relaxing walk around the Hyatt Resort. In the summer, you can pay $10 for use of the pool, hot tub, and bar. There's also a spa and a golf course, all with the Choptank River at your fingertips. You really feel like you are on vacation here.

Assateague Island
Assateague Island has 2 trails to explore; we hiked the Life of the Dunes Trail which showcased a road called Baltimore Boulevard. It was a road built in the 1950s that took you from MD to VA through Assateague Island. The road was destroyed during a Nor'easter in 1962, which then paved the way for this national park to exist. Currently, it costs $20 to get into the National Park part of the island but is free with the national park pass (~$90/year).

Annapolis' Main Street
The Puritans founded Annapolis when they were exiled from Virginia in 1649, and named the town Providence. Later it was called Anne Arundel’s town after the Lord of Baltimore’s wife. In the early 1700s, a royal governor named it Annapolis after Princess Anne. Four signers of the Declaration of Independence resided in this town and their houses still stand today.

Calvert Cliffs State Park
One of our college friends lives in the area and gave us some pointers for our trip to Southern Maryland. One in particular was doing the Red Trail at Calvert Cliffs State Park in Lusby, MD.

Susquehanna State Park
Amelia and I started our northern MD adventure at the Rock Run Mill/Toll house parking lot midway through the Susquehanna Ridge Trail (near the purple trail). We took that red trail north and then continued clockwise to Deer Creek Trail, Heritage Greenway Trail, then the rails to trails along the water back to our parking lot

Dejon Vineyard
DeJon Vineyard is in Hydes, MD. Our favorite wines there were the Peach and Festivus (for the Rest of Us!).

Havre de Grace
Havre de Grace is the 2nd oldest municipality behind Annapolis as it was founded in 1782. General Marquis de Lafayette who was in the American Revolution loved the view of the Bay from the Susquehanna River, and exclaimed "C'est Le Havre!" - meaning that it reminded him of the French port town Le Havre.

Busboys and Poets
Not only is the food delicious here, but the restaurant has a really cool atmosphere inside. They call themselves a “cultural hub where racial and cultural connections are consciously uplifted,” and it felt like just that. The name Busboys and Poets comes from the poet Langston Hughes, who was a busboy before achieving recognition as a poet.

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
The Basilica is the largest Catholic Church in North America. It is located on Catholic University’s property in the Brookland neighborhood of D.C., about a 7-minute drive from Lincoln’s Cottage. Whether you are religious or not, this architectural phenomenon is worth a visit. Construction began in 1920, and it was completed in 2017; almost 100 years. In 1990, Pope John Paul II declared this national shrine a minor basilica.

Old Town Alexandria
Old Town has a historic feel and is adorable during Christmastime, almost like the feel of the holidays in Colonial Williamsburg.

President Lincoln's Cottage
I had no idea there a 'Camp David of old' until we came across President Lincoln's Cottage.
