What To Do

Gari Melchers’ Home and Art Studio

We were splendidly surprised to learn about the life and art works of Gari Melchers, an American artist. His father was a sculptor and taught Gari art at a young age. As he grew older he had a fascination with mothers and children, as he and his wife never had kids. Therefore many of his paintings are of mothers with their kids. He also painted hands in great detail, especially when painting to depict the working class. We recommend taking the tour at Gari’s mansion just outside of the town of Fredericksburg.

Other To Do's

George Washington’s Ferry Farm was closed when we were there. Also, Mary Washington’s house (George’s mother) is in downtown Fredericksburg. We did not do a tour due to time. There are BEAUTIFUL historic homes in that area that are worth your time walking around the neighborhood.

Where To Eat

Hyperion Espresso

Hyperion Espresso was delightful for a cup of coffee or tea and a small breakfast. It is in the heart of town in Fredericksburg.

Castiglia's

Castiglia’s was an Italian pizzeria and restaurant in the heart of town. The service was great, as well as the food and drinks.
