Locust Point
Along with Fells Point, Locust Point is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Baltimore. It has a rich history with Fort McHenry, Domino Sugar, a beautiful view at the Under Armour promenade, a local brewery, and beautiful row homes built over 100 years ago.
What to Do
Fort McHenry
The Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine is where our national anthem was born during the War of 1812. It currently features a museum as well as a park. The museum has a short video inside that is very much worth watching and makes you feel "Proud to be an American." Then you can explore the Fort. Afterwards, walk the 1-mile path around the Fort for one of my favorite strolls in Baltimore. You just can't beat the scenic views and powerful American history at this Historic Shrine. The gates to the park are open 9AM-5PM, with free parking inside the park. It is also free to walk around the Fort, but you will need to pay to get into the Fort-part of the museum. *Tip: in March, the beautiful cherry blossoms are in full bloom ;-)
Under Armour Waterfront Promenade
The Under Armour Promenade at sunrise or sunset makes for magical views of Baltimore City's Inner Harbor. This is currently Under Armour's Global Headquarters, where the designers, accountants, etc. work. There is a gym run by FX studios which you can now enjoy as well! Click here for more information on how to join their beautiful gym.
Spot the Domino Sugars Sign
The iconic Domino Sugars sign is a part of Locust Point. The sugar campus was built in 1921 and is still running today. It is the second largest sugar factory in the U.S.
Baltimore Museum of Industry
This museum showcases Maryland's industrial heritage. It it set at an oyster cannery dated to the 1860s. The beautiful waterfront area gets you the closest view of the Domino Sugars sign. The Baltimore Museum of Industry also makes for a great wedding venue. On Saturdays during the spring, summer, and fall, the museum's pavilion is used for a farmers market.
Where to Eat
Diamondback Brewing Company
By far, Diamondback Brewing Company is our favorite local spot for their hospitality, the best pizza in town, and ambiance. Even when we travel, we compare the pizza to Diamondback's, and there is never a competition. They are known for their Green Machine IPA. As I do not like IPAs, they usually have one fruity sour on tap that fits my taste buds.
L.P. Steamers
It’s not summer in Baltimore until you have crabs. We usually get ours from L.P. Steamers. They have a roof deck that shows beautiful views of the city; if you get lucky, you should get a seat up there.
Pure Raw Juice
The best acaí bowls around are at Pure Raw Juice. The first location is in Federal Hill, but the Locust Point location is nice as well.
