Vancouver, B.C.
I was about a 4-hour drive from mainland Canada when living in Washington. With one of my high school friends living there, I had to go visit! It was a gorgeous city on the water with snow-capped mountains right in front of you. As this is still in the region of Washington’s Pacific Northwest, it is a very rainy city from October through June. Raincoats are a must during that time. July - September it is sunny with perfect temperatures.
What to Do
Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge
This park is free! We loved the bridge and the hikes this park offered. We did not make it in time to park in the parking lot since it was full, but we found free parking in the neighborhood just outside of the park. There are bathrooms at this park, just an FYI :)
Capilano Suspension Bridge
We did not see this bridge as it cost money to get in but apparently it is the longest suspension bridge in the WORLD. It is very close to the Lynn Valley Suspension Bridge, so if you want bragging rights, go to the Capilano Bridge! See this website for more information on how to choose which suspension bridge you would like to try out.
Bike at Stanley Park
This was my favorite part of the trip, which makes sense as according to my friend Kelsey this is the #1 thing to do in Vancouver! We rented bikes at Spokes Bicycle Rentals and explored the seawall, which is the circumference of Stanley Park along the water. It offered us majestic views of the city, mountains, and the seawall!
The Original Lululemon
In Vancouver’s Kitsilano district is the first Lululemon store! Now it just looks like a normal one of their stores but the prices are the same as America’s. What that means (currently) is it’s MUCH cheaper to get an outfit or leggings here than it is in an American Lululemon store. Plus you can say you’ve been here! Nearby here is Kitsilano Beach which is fun to walk around.
Locarno Beach and Spanish Banks for sunset
On these beaches we had a great time finding the best spot for pictures at sunset. Hint: there’s many great spots! We also had a great time driving around looking at the beautiful houses which are full of character in this area.
The Grouse Grind
The Ground Grind is an incredible climb up a steep mountain. For your great reward at the top of this mountain is the show of all shows, the “world-famous lumberjack show.” This makes it well-worth all your effort!
Where to Eat
Granville Island Public Market
A farmers market on a small island under a bridge and on the water facing downtown Vancouver; yes please! This adorable marketplace had many options for food so be sure to come hungry for a meal here. Get whatever strikes your fancy and bring it outside to sit by the water looking towards the downtown area.
East is East
A popular spot for Afghani food, their homemade chai tea and all of their food just warms your heart! We also loved the inclusive atmosphere here and the live music.
Jam Cafe
This restaurant is the locals’ favorite spot for brunch in the Kitsilano district.
49th Parallel Cafe and Lucky’s Doughnuts
A great place for coffee and doughnuts :)
